First, let me say thanks for linking to the site. The more the site is used, the more motivated I am to keep it running and free.

By using a common phrase when linking to this site, you will boost Google (and other!) search engine results, making it easier for others to find this site.

In addition or instead of links, you might like to embed a small live map in your website. For information, see Mini Map Registration.

Linking parameters

First, remember that the map is "maps.AvnWx.com", not "www.AvnWx.com".

Without any query parameters (the "extra stuff" on the end of the URL). AvnWx.com will display weather surrounding the best guess of the user's location. If the user has visited before, then we'll probably pull the preferred location out of the user's cookie.

To set a particular location, and always go to that location, add address=airport_id parameter. For example:

  https://maps.AvnWx.com?address=KOAK
  https://maps.AvnWx.com?address=JFK-BOS
  https://maps.AvnWx.com?address=34.7,-120.5

You can set the radius of the view using the radius=miles parameter. Keep the radius small (25 or 50 miles) so you can focus on the weather near your route. Setting radius to 1000 miles will simply annoy the server & we don't want to do that.

For more details, and more control over your default view, bring up the map, set it the way you like and then select the Help->URL for this View option.
